What’s true for a lot of us is that we can work hard at our jobs and our relationships, but we often a come up really short, when it comes to working out. We buy a gym membership, and then have the pressure of spending good money every month, motivating us to go. And once we’re there, the equipment is right in front of us and other people are already doing it, so we join in.
At home however, things are different, and it’s easy to succumb to the fact that you had a long day, there’s wine on the counter, and your roommate is skipping her workout too. But gyms are expensive and inconvenient and its time you saved some money and worked on your motivation. So here are a few ways you can stay in great shape without a gym.
Go Running
Running, in addition to being one of the best exercises, is also one of the most exciting, if you do it outside of the gym. Being on the treadmill, the view never changes and you are constantly trying to find distractions form the ending pounding of miles. Running outside is different and you get to use the scenery, sights, and sounds to enhance the experience. Find wonderful trails and hills, and different surfaces to test your fitness. You can even run through new neighborhoods and explore.
So remember, it doesn’t cost a penny to experience the great outdoors, and one thing’s for sure, it’s going to be much more scenic than staring at the wall in front of the treadmill. So pick a set time that works for you and some great music to listen to, and get out into the sun and run!
Do Bodyweight Exercises
Bodyweight exercises are strength training exercises that do not require free weights or machines as the individual’s own weight provides resistance against gravity. If you’re looking to increase muscle mass or body tone, bodyweight exercises offer a great way to workout. Many of the most popular bodyweight exercises including push-ups squats, sit-ups, and lunges have been around for hundreds of years, and help you to get toned biceps, legs and other areas of your body you would like to target. Also, the Internet has unleashed a plethora of new and effective bodyweight exercises for you to try. Perhaps the best thing about them is that they can be performed almost anywhere and without any equipment at all.
Watch Your Diet
an often overlooked part of any fitness routine is your diet. A poor diet can negate any work you put in on the road running. With increasingly crazy work and school schedules and family commitments, we often sacrifice our diets leading to bad consequences. You have to fight against this to get fit. This means dedicating more time to cooking meals and eliminating processed, high fat foods ( yes, I mean burgers, chips, and pizza) from your diet. At the same time add an abundance of healthy fruits and vegetables. This strategy will get you feeling great and add to your motivation to workout.
These health and fitness ideas are easy to do and demonstrate that there are plenty of ways to boost your health and fitness levels without heading to a gym.
